Summary/Synopsis

Cipla-QCIL got slapped with a $10,000 bill by UMEME on December 2023. Using Orijtech’s systems, Cipla was able to identify discrepancies and accurately cross check then show with evidence that UMEME’s report was erroneous.

Deep dive

In December 2023, the Metering Unit at CIPA-QCIL that measures energy used at the premises for the utility (UMEME) went offline due to an electrical fault on the line and was irreparably damaged. It took several weeks before a replacement meter could be installed. During this time, UMEME could not meter CIPLA’s energy usage and therefore opted to make estimates of their electrical bill based off previous usage. UMEME somehow grossly overestimated CIPLA’s energy bill during this time by approximately $10,000. CIPLA contested this and was able to back up their argument with data they had collected from our energy meters which had been online even when their metering unit was unavailable. CIPLA was able to objectively prove that their energy bill was overestimated using our energy monitoring solution and thus avoided spending an extra $10,000 in overestimated energy costs.

Conclusion

Orijtech’s smart energy monitoring solution empowered our customer CIPLA to avoid paying an overestimated energy bill and was therefore able to save $10,000. By analogy, energy monitoring is akin to insurance, you cannot buy it when you need it. If CIPLA did not have the data from our smart meters to backup their argument they would have had to overpay for their energy during this time period.
